3  Our day has 7 periods, which includes 6 periods of academic classes and 1 period of lunch.  Students will be assigned a locker with a built-in combination lock.  During class time, students in the hall must have passes.

4  Classes All of Our Students Must Take:  English  Math  Science  Social Studies  Lunch

5 English 7 Honors English 7 -- must meet requirements (Selected based on an English screener) English 8 Honors English 8 -- must meet requirements (A- or better in Eng 7 or B in Honors Eng.)

6 Math 7 *Pre-Algebra 7 (B or better in Math end of 1st sem.) *Honors Algebra 7 –1 h.s. credit (selected based on an Algebra screener.) Pre-Algebra 8 *Algebra 8 (C or better in Pre-Algebra) 1 h.s. credit *Honors Algebra 8 (B+ or better in 7 th grade Pre-Algebra) 1 h.s. credit

7 Science 7 Science 8 Integrated Science 8–1 h.s. credit (B+ or better in Science 7)

8 Social Studies 7 Social Studies 8 There are no choices for social studies.

9 Students must take two periods (four semesters) of electives.

10 YOU HAVE MANY CHOICES TO MAKE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CHILD’S SCHEDULE.

11 Band 7/8 Choir 7/8 Orchestra 7/8 These are year-long classes (2 semesters). No h.s. credit

12 Students not choosing Band, Choir, or Orchestra... MUST select Health (1semester) and one of the Physical Education course selections: Lifetime Fitness (1semester) Team Sports (1semester)

13 Lifetime Fitness 7/8 (.25 h.s credit) Team Sports 7/8 (.25 h.s credit) Health 7/8 (can’t repeat in grade 8 if taken in grade 7 -- no h.s.credit)

14 * Spanish 7/8 * French 8 * German 8 These are year-long electives. French & German are offered 1 st period (7:20) at the high school. 1 h.s. credit each

16 Introduction to Biomedical Science Through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) (1 semester) - No h.s.credit In this course students will investigate how the history of medicine has changed how we deal with illness in the 21 st century. Students will focus on infectious disease and how the science of forensics, through the use of medicine, has improved criminal investigations. This is a hands-on course.

17 Art Choices Foundations in Two Dimensional Design - Grade 7/ h.s. credit Foundations in Three Dimensional Design Grade 7/ h.s. credit

18 Theatre 1 Grade 7/8 (.50 h.s credit) Integrated Technology Choices Introduction to Communication, Graphic Arts & Photography Grade 7/8 (.50 h.s credit) Introduction to Engineering Technology Grade 7/8 (.50 h.s credit)

19 High School Credit Classes Students signing up for a class with a h.s. credit option will automatically receive credit for the class. If your child does not wish to take the class for h.s. credit and have the grade credited to their h.s. transcript they must notify the School Counselor in writing no later than the deadlines indicated in the following slide.

20 For semester classes this notification must be made within 10 days of receipt of the report card for the first 9 weeks of the class. For year-long classes this notification must be made within 10 days of receipt of the report card at the end of the first semester.

21 SCHEDULE CHANGES WILL NOT BE MADE IN AUGUST UNLESS THE REASON FOR THE REQUEST MEETS THE CRITERIA SET FORTH BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION. PLEASE CAREFULLY DISCUSS AND REVIEW THE REGISTRATION MATERIALS WITH YOUR CHILD BEFORE SUBMITTING THE FORM.

22 * PLEASE TURN THE COURSE REQUEST SHEET IN TO YOUR CHILD’S 1 ST PERIOD TEACHER NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, 3/18/11. *Forms completed and turned in on time will be given 1 st preference for elective choices. *All students are expected to fill in all of the elective alternative blanks. Failure to do so will result in being assigned alternative electives without the student’s input or ability to change. * We are not able to accommodate individual requests for specific teachers.

23 Athletics at the Junior High Refer to the building website for dates on Mandatory Fall Sports Athletic Rules meetings. All Fall Athletes and their parents must be present. A physical is required for all sport try-outs. 24 Fall Sports Available at the Junior High Include: *Girls Volleyball *Girls Tennis *Boys/Girls Cross Country *Boys/Girls Golf *Football *Cheerleading (Tryouts take place this Spring.)

25 If you have specific questions about the sport, visit the school’s website in late May for the coach’s address. **Summer Camp information and fall sport handouts Will be available late May in the athletic office.

26 The first day of school for the school year will be Monday, August 29, Student drop-off/pick-up by auto is in front of the main entrance to the building. Bus Pick-up/drop-off is at the East end of the building.
