W ELCOME TO W ALNUT S PRINGS M IDDLE S CHOOL C URRICULUM N IGHT Laura Douridas 6 th Grade Math DouridaL@wcsoh.org
C URRICULUM The Core Math 7 will focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three- dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.
G RADING Grading will reflect the level of mathematical knowledge acquired by each student. To reflect the level of student mastery, the majority of a student’s grade will be comprised of the Individual Test average. Homework 10% 3 Daily P’s 5% Team Tests 15% Individual Tests 70%

The introduction: gets students active motivates learning is often a challenge Anatomy of a Lesson
Conceptual Development: Moves students from concrete to abstract. When appropriate, uses manipulatives such as algebra tiles. Incorporates problem- based learning. Uses a structured approach. Anatomy of a Lesson
Math Notes boxes contain: a summary of concepts. formal definitions. solved examples.
Homework Homework includes: Fewer problems allow for more concentration and perseverance. processing of current lessons. distributed practice of previous work. fluency with skills. extensions and applications of problem solving.
