 In India 1000 people die of TB every day i.e about 4 lacs a year  India accounts for one-fifth TB cases in the world.  There are 8-9 lacs new cases infected every year.  One may be infected with TB but yet do not know that he/she is infected.

 In India, two deaths occur every three minutes from tuberculosis (TB). But these deaths are preventable. With proper care and treatment, the battle against TB can be won.

 That someone in the world is newly infected with TB bacilli every second  Lacs of Indians are unaware that they have TB. Therefore detection is very important.  That every TB patient infects new persons on an average every year.

 Dramatic rise in drug resistant T.B. cases. In India today there are 1 lac Multi Drug resistant cases  There is separate Deputy Director of TB in Health Ministry in India. We are seeking full support from them to strengthen our efforts.

 TB and poverty come together to perpetuate a vicious cycle.  Hazardous living conditions, both for patients and their families – including their children – make this disease uncontrolable.

T.B. Eradication - Rotary in Action  To create awareness among Rotarians, informative brochures on TB are being sent to all clubs across the country.  The committee believes that more and more awareness and information will motivate Rotarians to make their contribution in this regard.

T.B. Eradication - Rotary in Action  We have one PDG Dr.Vijay Rathi as a coordinator in our district who is in direct contact with the DG and the clubs of that district.. PDG ClubDGClub

T.B. Eradication - Rotary in Action  We have FIVE Roving Ambassadors who remain regularly in touch with the coordinators and clubs. Six districts have been assigned to each Roving Ambassador.

 PPDG Kishore Pawde  DG Suresh Kasliwal  PDG Kuldip C. Kalra  PDG Ajit Irom  PDG Dr. Sagadevan

T.B. Eradication - Rotary in Action  We distribute posters in English and Hindi for being posted in slums and villages.  Our DG Ravindra Salunke making available these posters for all clubs very soon

T.B. Eradication - Rotary in Action  Important guidelines are issued to clubs regarding regular intake of medicines to avoid Multi Drug Resistant TB.

T.B. Eradication - Rotary in Action  Clubs can contact Dist. TB officers for supply of free medicines.  The list of Revenue District TB Officers will be provided by us to each Club shortly.

TB awareness and control is a colossal problem. When you see a handicapped person, you are immediately moved to help him but you might see a TB patient suffering severely and yet not know.

This is the irony of TB patients. There is a separate DDG TB with TB officers all over India. Despite very heavy Govt. expenditure, we have 1 lac Multi Drug Resistant patients who are ever increasing. They also need our special attention and support.

_________It is Rotary alone that can control and create awareness about TB. I whole heartedly appeal from this platform to make TB Control Programme a priority project of Rotary.
