1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow The 1980 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event celebrated in Moscow in the Soviet Union. The 1980 Games were the first to be staged in Eastern Europe.
Commemorative coins A series of commemorative coins was released in the USSR in 1977– 1980 to commemorate the event. It consisted of five platinum coins, six gold coins, 28 silver coins and six copper-nickel coins.
