2 IMPACT Robert was important because of his exploration of the Mississippi River in North America. He wanted to find wealth. He claimed the Mississippi River Basin, which he called the Louisiana territory, for France.

3 Birthday He was Born November 21, 1643, in St. Herbland Parish, Rouen, France.

7 Religion Robert was Catholic. During his young adult years, he was a member of the Jesuit religious order.
