Graphs cutting the x and y axis Exponential functions

Curves cutting the x and y axis. Worked Example: - Find the points where the curve y = 7 x – 3 cuts the x and y axis. Solution:- The curve cuts the y axis when x = 0. So y = 7 0 – 3 = 1 – 3 = -2 i.e. at the point (0, -2) The curve cuts the x axis when y = 0. So 0 = 7 x – 3 i.e. 7 x = 3 Taking log 10 of both sides gives log7 x = log3 i.e. xlog7 = log3 which gives = 1.77 so it cuts the axis at the point (1.77, 0) Exponentials cutting axis

In the examples below determine the points where the curve cuts the coordinate axis. Question 1y= e x+1 - 36y= 3e x - 5 2y= 5 - e 2x 7y= 2 - 2e x+1 3y = 10 x - 28y = 2 x - 5 4y = 7 – 3 x 5y= e x-1 – 1.5
