Weight The force of gravity on an object DOES change with location Measured in Newtons with a scale Weight = mass x gravity F w = mg g earth = 9.8 m/s 2 (mass must be in kg) g moon = 1.6 m/s 2 g Jupiter = 24.8 m/s 2

Practice Problems 1.Your cat has a mass of 2kg. What is her weight in Newtons on Earth? F w = mg F w = 2kg x 9.8 m/s 2 F w = 19.6 N
