What is Science? Understanding how Science, Society, and Technology are interrelated
What is Science? What are the 3 main disciplines of science? – Biology – Chemistry – Physics What do they all share in common?
Science: The Definition Understanding how and why events happen in the known universe. – Biology- Study of Life – Chemistry- Study of Matter – Physics- Study of Forces and Motion If we can understand why things happen we can benefit from it!
How we benefit Clean Water Immunizations Longer/Healthier Lives
Science creates Technology Increases our ability to see things more clearly. The more we see, the better we understand. The better we understand the more knowledge we obtain, and more questions to answer. – Technology- use or application scientific knowledge for a specific goal
Technology creates more Science Better observations led to new discoveries which create more questions to answer. New technology is then developed to answer these questions.
Technology helps develop Society Society- group of people working together for a common goal Technology to helps Society to make life “easier for all” Society therefore demands technology.
Society creates a Demand for Science Society wants overall the easiest and most convenient way to have “good things” happen. This results in the development of new science.
