Life is Like a Tootsie Roll Lollipop The Adventures of Sib and Bib
Life is Like a Tootsie Roll Lollipop Longtime educator Beverly Boone has written a book of short stories that span from early childhood through her teaching years. Life is Like a Tootsie Roll Lollipop describes the secrets of youth and the realizations of adulthood in a humorous and touching fashion. The stories reflecting Boone’s childhood. In one chapter, she describes her deep need to join a group of kids in cussing. When she lets loose with the shocking words, it backfires and she learns an important lesson on being who you really are. Losing dear friends, dreaming of snow in the South and recalling key figures in her young life round out a pleasant string of childhood reflections. Passages describing the relationship with her older sister are simply wonderful and truly reveal the strength of their sisterly bond, born of magic, imagination and love. There are several chapters related to Boone’s teaching, and some of the most powerful of the book’s chapters revolve around the rewards of helping children and the long-delayed knowledge that she did help her students. In many of these cases, her learning experiences transcend the student/teacher relationship and emerge on a level that all readers can relate to. As a whole, the book is for the most part a good balance of sadness and joy, morals and entertainment. Its contents are bursting with wisdom and fun that just about anyone can relate to despite age, race, religion or background. There is only one chapter that doesn’t really relate to the authors life, and the name of that chapter is A Christmas Journey it is an emotionally intensive tale that the author reads like a fiction story. She said she hopes this story will Spark a remembrance for each reader.
