Skimming I. Browsing quickly through a textual selection. A. Looking for the main idea of a selection. a. Main Idea 1. tells the topic of the paragraph.
Elements of text organization I. Title A. The heading or B. the name of the selection II. Subtitles A. Smaller headings B. found beneath the title or within the selection C. Assists the reader with identifying the purpose (main idea) of the paragraph
Elements of text organization III. Visual representations A. Any illustration located within the text. B. Whenever you hear the words… 1. Photographs 2. Images 3. Drawings 4. Imagery 5. Snapshots 6. Visualization 7. Paintings 8. Graphic Aids, or the most simple way to think of it is 9. Pictures IV. Captions A. Small explanations of illustrations B. located above or beneath visual representations C. Usually uses smaller text and is in bold type
