4 Today’s reality… Statistics state that up to 70% of IT projects run late, over-budget, or do not meet planned goals…Consequently, implementation risk is a critical factor… From “Introducing Packaged Solutions” by Michael Krigsman Now when companies think about implementing an application, they really want to implement an integrated solution. Henry D. Morris, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Software and Services, IDC Customers today want choices in how they scope, configure, and deploy business software. Peter M. Russo, Managing Director of Pierre Audoin Consultants

5 Customers want to… … ensure the most predictable and fastest time to business value … deliver the integration the business demands to start and grow without compromises … choose from a modular ready to use portfolio of solution, deployment and pricing options

45 Rapid Data Migration Steps Analysis & Data Profiling
SAP DATA MIGRATION 1 ANALYSIS 2 EXTRACT CLEAN 3 VALIDATE 4 5 LOAD 6 RECONCILE Governance and Visualization Analysis of the data, including assessing and profiling the data, is critical to a data migration project. SAP services and many of our partners start with this step way before the migration. As a first step, key data is profiled to determine the quality of the data. This could include checking percentage of records that are complete (for example, full zip code, or complete contact information), as well as reviewing how many records follow a certain pattern. This can be important if two companies are being merged and some records from each company should be merged, or all records must follow a specific pattern. The analysis portion of the data can start well in advance of the actual migration. The more insight into the existing data the more success the data migration project is likely to have. Profiling and inspecting the data Measuring the data defects Analyzing the cause and impact of those defects Reporting the results of the analysis to key stakeholders

46 Rapid Data Migration Steps Data analysis and profiling: data content, quality, structure and relationships Analysis of data beyond viewing Frequency distribution Distinct values Null values Minimum/Maximum values Data Patterns (e.g. Xxx Xxxx99, 99-Xxx) Comparison of values between data sets to determine fit Can drill down to view specific records Data analysis and data profiling provide insight into the source data, determining the level of cleansing that is required for migration. Data analysis will include analysis to determine: Availability and quality of existing data to support SAP business processes Complexity & risks associated with the data consolidation and conversion process Governance & visualization requirements of the business

47 Rapid Data Migration Steps Extraction
SAP DATA MIGRATION 2 EXTRACT 1 ANALYSIS CLEAN 3 VALIDATE 4 5 LOAD 6 RECONCILE Governance and Visualization Extraction includes extracting data from the source system and moving data to a staging area for the ongoing migration. This step will be done iteratively, starting with smaller amounts of data, testing the remainder of the process, then gradually extraction more and more data. This step includes: Connect to diverse source systems Extract data based on criteria (for example business partners, sales orders, etc) Extract master and transaction data Map data to SAP structures Connect to diverse source systems (one source per RDS) Extract data based on criteria (for example business partners, sales orders, etc) Extract master and transaction data Map data to SAP structures

48 Rapid Data Migration Steps Support for structured and unstructured data
Broad connectivity to databases, applications, legacy, file formats, and unstructured data Databases Applications Files/Transport Mainframe Unstructured Data Oracle DB2 Sybase & IQ SQL Server Informix Teradata ODBC MySQL Netezza JD Edwards Oracle Apps PeopleSoft Siebel Salesforce.com SAP BI SAP R/3 ABAP BAPI IDoc Text delimited Text fixed width EBCDIC XML Cobol Excel HTTP JMS SOAP (Web Services) ADABAS ISAM VSAM Enscribe IMS/DB RMS Both direct and change data Any text file type 32 languages SAP BusinessObjects Data Services can connect to any source and target system. Broad connectivity is provided, including capability to connect to specific systems such as JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, along with general database, mainframe, and text file connectivity options.

49 Rapid Data Migration Steps Clean
SAP DATA MIGRATION CLEAN 3 1 ANALYSIS 2 EXTRACT VALIDATE 4 5 LOAD 6 RECONCILE Governance and Visualization Repetition is the key to data migration overall, that is true for the cleaning step in the migration process. Cleansing the data may include parsing, standardizing, setting up of specific cleansing rules. Additionally with SAP BusinessObjects Data Services extensive data quality can be used as well, for example checking for duplicates, matching and merging records. The cleansing rules become the basis for data governance. Examples of data cleansing available in addition to this RDS: Cleansing data based on business rules, for example postal code must be five digits plus 4 digits Parse data Standardized data

50 Rapid Data Migration Steps Data cleansing ensures the right data gets migrated
Standardized Output Note: Cleansing is in scope only for name and address standardization demonstration for validation and de-duplication for Utilities only

51 Rapid Data Migration Steps Validate
SAP DATA MIGRATION VALIDATE 4 1 ANALYSIS 2 EXTRACT CLEAN 3 5 LOAD 6 RECONCILE Governance and Visualization Data validation out-of-the-box content delivered with the RDS includes specific business rules for validating source data against SAP target system Content provides extraction of check tables from the SAP target system for the value mapping

52 Rapid Data Migration Steps Data validation from source to target data structures
Data validation out-of-the-box content includes specific business rules for validating source data against SAP target system Content includes extraction of check tables from the SAP target system for the value mapping

53 Rapid Data Migration Steps Load
SAP DATA MIGRATION 5 LOAD 1 ANALYSIS 2 EXTRACT CLEAN 3 VALIDATE 4 6 RECONCILE Governance and Visualization Load data into target system Industry Solution Migration Workbench or iDoc for loading Out-of-the-box content to configure loading for data migration Auditing and reporting of load processes available with Governance and Visualization

54 Rapid Data Migration Steps Loading cleansed and validated source data to target system
The Industry Solution Migration Workbench or iDoc are used to load data into SAP target systems.

55 Rapid Data Migration Steps Reconcile
SAP DATA MIGRATION 6 RECONCILE 1 ANALYSIS 2 EXTRACT CLEAN 3 VALIDATE 4 5 LOAD Governance and Visualization Reconciliation reconciles the target data with the source. For example, material ABC on the source is material NA-ABC on the target. There is a metadata linkage from the target back to the source data. Reconcile data loaded in target against source data Provide metadata linkage between target object and source object

56 Rapid Data Migration Steps Reconcile to ensure the data was loaded correctly and completely
Out-of-the-box reports to compare source and target data after the loading. Detailed reconciliation reports showing which records and fields have failed to reconcile between the staging area and the target SAP application.

57 Rapid Data Migration Steps Governance and Visualization
SAP DATA MIGRATION 1 ANALYSIS 2 EXTRACT CLEAN 3 VALIDATE 4 5 LOAD 6 RECONCILE Governance and Visualization Process transparency to keep the data migration process running smoothly with functionality that shows exactly what’s going on in any phase of the project Data governance puts in place the organization and metrics to provide insight into the level of data quality supporting your business processes Process transparency to keep the data migration process running smoothly with functionality that shows exactly what’s going on in any phase of the project Data governance puts in place the organization and metrics to provide insight into the level of data quality supporting your business processes

58 Rapid Data Migration Steps Visualization of the data migration status
Visualization shows the status for the migration, providing: Summary of records loaded Details on success and failure of each record Ability to go from summary to details of which fields failed Visualization enables process transparency Governance metrics start with the data migration metrics
