MUSIC Music:  Structure  Rules  Vocabulary  Power  Styles  Allows us to COMMUNICATE

Music Theory

Music Theory Example Hook A hook is a musical idea, often a short riff, passage, or phrase, that is used in pop music to make a song appealing and to “catch the ear of the listener” Very similar to how we write our English paper

Ted Talk! Music as a language - Victor Wooten language

How is music a universal language? Personal experience in Japan

How is music a universal language? There are so many different types of languages like Japanese, Italian, Russian, and A LOT more. Russian person speaking Russian + trying to explain something to me = WAAAAAAAAA… As the video shows music is definitely a universal language PLAY FOR A CHANGE One Love

What type of language is music? Music is mainly the language of emotion The film with Christian Bale called Equilibrium: a Dystopia Sans Emotion Remember when he heard the sound of music and started crying? Everyone in the word has the same emotions but not everyone in the world speaks the same language

Why someone wouldn’t think it was a universal language or even a language It is not specific enough You can not ask someone to borrow head phones or a sheet of paper with music.

Interesting Facts music language can never lie but the language we speak can. On psycologytoday.com they had an article called Which Came First: Music or Language? “ The modern human brain came into being 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. The oldest instrument, a bone flute dated at 40,000 years old, was discovered in Germany a few years ago. It's not a large leap to think that singing emerged before more sophisticated wind playing. This archaeological evidence provides support for the idea that artistry, creativity, and music were a part of our ancestors' lives as the modern human brain was developing.”

thank you
