3 BI Definition - Jessyca Gathering information about a specific business along with the applications which are used to store, analyze and provide access to the data. This a great benefit for business’s to save time and make better business decisions.

7 Data Warehouse - ken A data warehouse is the main repository of an organization's historical data, its corporate memory. The critical factor leading to the use of a data warehouse is that a data analyst can perform complex queries and analysis, such as data mining, on the information without slowing down the operational systems. Advantages –Data warehouses enhance end-user access to a wide variety of data. –Decision support system users can obtain specified trend reports, e.g. the item with the most sales in a particular area within the last two years. –Data warehouses can be a significant enabler of commercial business applications, particularly customer relationship management (CRM) systems. 8 Data Mart - ken A specialized version of a data warehouse. Like data warehouses, data marts contain a snapshot of operational data that helps business people to strategize based on analyses of past trends and experiences. A data mart configuration emphasizes easy access to relevant information. Advantages –Easy access to frequently needed data –Creates collective view by a group of users –Improves end-user response time –Ease of creation –Lower cost than implementing a full Data warehouse –Potential users are more clearly defined than in a full Data warehouse
