2 F. Scott Fitzgerald Francis Key Scott Fitzgerald was born on September 24, 1896, in St. Paul, Minnesota. His name came from his second cousin three times removed, Francis Scott Key, who is responsible for the writing of the Star Spangled Banner. His father, Edward, was from Maryland. His mother, Mary, was an wealthy Irish Immigrant; reflected in his writings.

3 The Jazz Age  Francis Key Scott Fitzgerald was an author during the 1920's; also known as the Jazz Age or the "Roaring Twenties". This was a time period characterized by the overall transition of American culture; including jazz as the popular music, flappers, prohibition, organized crime, and excessive partying.

4 The Impact of Fitzgerald’s life on His Writings  There were many different factors that contributed to Fitzgerald's writings. WWI affected his writing. Additionally, the fact that he is also classified as being one of the writers of the Lost Generation; being that he moved to Paris in 1928. While there he wrote The Great Gatsby. He also had many personal issues such as alcoholism, love affairs, depression, and the mental stability of his wife: considering her visits in and out of mental institutions.

5 Historical Evidence Within the Writing of F. Scott Fitzgerald  A lot of historical evidence is reflected in the writings of Fitzgerald; additionally being the factor contributing most to the popularity of his works. In The Great Gatsby, for example, there was evidence of WWI, the flappers, prohibition, and the many other things that contributed to the "Roaring Twenties". This Side of Paradise additionally has a great amount of evidence; considering that it is about a solider of WWI. Fitzgerald additionally uses many references to society,at the time, and the importance of wealth and social status. This is shown in his works; such as The Offshore Pirate, Myra Meets His Family, Bernice Bobs Her Hair, and The Great Gatsby.
