2  It is a generator that produces an alternating current when driven by a prime mover. It is either the voltage switching polarity or the current switching direction that it is known as an alternating current.

3  Field- consists of coils of conductors that receive a voltage and produce a magnetic flux.  Armature- Part that which voltage is produced.  Prime Mover- Part that is used to drive generator.  Rotor- Used to rotate the generator.  Stator- Part that the rotor revolves around.  Slip Rings- method of making an electrical connection through a rotating assembly.

4  The turning of a coil in a magnetic field produces motional emfs in both sides of the coil which add. Since the component of the velocity perpendicular to the magnetic field changes with the rotation, the generated voltage is AC. This process can be described in terms of Faraday's law when you see that the rotation of the coil changes the magnetic flux through the coil and then generates a voltage.

5  They are used for outdoor lighting and can also be found in cars and other lights and things like that.
