Week 1 Revision of JSS Course. Talk on the importance of mathematics, the branches and application to real life. Week 2 Number bases (binary) base 2, base 7 (days of the week) etc, Conversion from base 10 to other bases and from other bases to base 10. Problem solving, Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of numbers of other bases. Week 3 Standard forms (A X 10 n ) indices – writing numbers in index form. Week 4Laws of indices and their applications Week 5 Logarithm: relating this to indices. Use of logarithm tables and antilogarithm for numbers greater than 1. Week 6Calculations involving multiplication, division, power and root using logarithm tables.
Week 7 Sets – universal finite, infinite, empty, subsets, disjoint and compliment of sets. Week 8Set :- Union, intersection of sets. The Venn diagram Week 9Problem solving Using Venn diagrams Week 10 Linear inequalities in one variable (II) simultaneous linear inequalities in two variables. Week 11 Algebraic simplification and substitution (1) use of letters (ii) Adding and subtracting algebraic fractions (iii) common factors (iv) Substitution Week 12Revision Week 13Examination
