There are two roles to play in our WebQuest - The role of the student who has to sign up for the Fall quarter class schedule and navigate the first social event of the school year… Or the role of the parent who has a expiring Visa that has to start the citizenship process and find a job. 4 TASK With the two roles that are going to be played you have specific items that need to be done: High School Student that is adjusting to the style and culture of a new country High School Student Adapting to the social aspects of your peer group with participating in the school dance. Language and dealing with School work - Your schedule is completely in Spanish and you will have to order all your school supplies from this store.store. 6 Parent Role Begin the process of becoming a CitizenCitizen Define What it means to be a Citizen What can and can’t you do? How long do you have to wait to become a Citizen What jobs can you get?jobs What are the guidelines for you finding employment? Casa

7 High School Evaluation As a High School Student you will be evaluated on how you put your class schedule together You need to have a balanced schedule so what did you sign up for? What did you get for class and how much was it (by item) and in Spanish. How well you learned the dance steps to the Salsa This is a important dance so you will be graded on your footwork and how well you led your partner through the dance. Casa

8 Parent Evaluation As a Parent you will evaluated on how you understood the Citizenship process First part - What did you have to do, Who did you have to talk to, What limitations did you have? Second part - Write a response paper to each of the questions, giving in detail the information needed for each question. What jobs you could get and what you applied for. First part - What opportunities where out there for you. How did you provide for your family? Second part - Give some examples of what opportunities were there for you. Casa

10 Conclusion Now I want you to think about what you learned from this WebQuest. Did you feel the angst of the student trying to understand the schedule? Or the excitement of trying new things? Did you feel the frustration from the parent and the roadblocks that stood in front of them? Hopefully you learned another point of view and can understand the uncertainty of immigration. You were trying to start a life in a place you didn’t understand the language or know how to relate. I hope you can take this WebQuest and know you could “Grow up in a Foreign Country.” Casa
