* England is left broke (war debt) * Colonists question why they still need England * England and Colonies see the situation after the war differently *This strains their relationship during a series of events that = conflict
Colonies should pay war debt & do what we say! Colonies should not pay war or do what England says because we have no representation or say!
Pontiacs Rebellion! England wants peace with Indians ($$$) England forbids Colonist from moving West = angry Colonists Colonists move West & take Indian lands
We do not want to pay for an army to protect you. We want you close to us. You are Colonies & have no Say. We want the Western land! You did not ask us or give us a say in the Proclamation. We will go anyway.
England Starts to Tax Colonists to pay F & I War debt Sugar Act: Tax on Sugar Colonists protest = tax lowered
All Englishmen pay taxes. The Colonies benefited from the F & I War so you should pay for it. Colonies do not make the rules New Taxes? We did not get to debate or vote. We should not pay without a say!
Colonies must house & feed British Soldiers (Redcoats) British use Redcoats as Policeman & tax collectors in the colonies
The soldiers are there to keep an eye on you and collect taxes! We Do not have to ask you just do it colonist! Soldiers in my house? England did not ask us if that was okay. We Feel violated & we dislike this!
