Take home practise SAC next Friday (27 July) Next Tuesday I am away at a PD. I will set some readings and exercises (if you don’t do them that SAC the week after will be real tricky) I still need to see holiday homework from Jake, Cass and Alexis.

LEARNING INTENTIONS Students will be able to: Identify employer & employee expectations of employment Describe why sometimes these expectations can be in conflict Identify & discuss practices that employers can implement to meet employee expectations

Formal and informal beliefs about the tasks or working environment that an employer provides. Some expectations an employee may have are: 1. Safe and clean working environment that complies with OH&S law 2. Job security 3. Remuneration (reasonable pay) 4. Professional development opportunities 5. Work/life balance EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS

For each of these expectations we need to ask three questions: 1.Why is it important to employees? 2.Do any laws cover this expectation? 3.What can an employer do to ensure this expectation is met? Keep these questions in mind as we look through the textbook and at other sources. EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS

What are the likely OH&S risks faced by those in the following jobs (draw up this list in your books): Scientist Miner Teacher Hairdresser Police Officer Truck Driver OH&S

Folks – your turn. For the last three expectations (remuneration, professional development and work/life balance) answer these questions for each: 1.Why is it important to employees? 2.Do any laws cover this expectation? 3.What can an employer do to ensure this expectation is met?
