3 Re-organisation of SafeWork SA Team Structure: Previous Structure:  Mining and Major Hazard Facilities were in the Dangerous Substances Team reporting to the Manager DS Team New Structure  Mining and Major Hazard Facilities is now a separate team reporting to the Strategic Interventions Group Director  This reflects SafeWork SA’s response to the burgeoning minerals industry in SA and pending legislation relating to MHF’s

4 Strategic Approach New Team – New Approach  With increased activity in the sector and limited resources we need to take a well defined strategic approach to our regulatory tasks. Next Steps  Establish clear dialogue with our stakeholders  Develop and Implement an outcomes focused Strategic Plan

5 Partnerships with Government Agencies: We want to avoid:  Duplication of services or requirements imposed upon industry  Repeated follow-on between agencies at sites  Unnecessary red tape We will:  Ensure dialogue with other agencies  Plan site visits with other agencies  Co-ordinate reporting and other requirements with other agencies to eliminate duplication

6 Partnerships with other Stakeholders: Communication  We will set up a dialogue with each of our stakeholders  We will meet regularly with key stakeholder representatives Service Delivery  We will look for ways to optimize service delivery  We will review our programs to ensure stakeholder satisfaction  We will look for new ways to achieve desired outcomes to World’s Best Practice

7 Events in Recent Times:  Our industries have shown marked improvements  The improvements have begun to plateau  We now measure MTI’s and near misses as we have significantly reduced our LTIFR’s  We are now trying to change fundamental human behaviours  Major loss incidents do not relate to LTIFR:  NASA lowest LTIFR in USA  BP Texas City lowest LTIFR in oil refining business  The job is not getting any easier  Australia is no different to any other country or region  We must be ever vigilant and think outside the box
