12 Emergency Management Unit Setting the Table  Public Safety Canada .... to keep Canadians safe from a range of risks such as natural disasters, crime and terrorism.  To do this, Public Safety Canada coordinates and supports the efforts of federal organizations ensuring national security and the safety of Canadians. We also work with other levels of government, first responders, community groups, the private sector and other nations.

13 Emergency Management Unit Setting the Table  Ontario - Ministry of Community Safety & Correctional Services ....is committed to ensuring that Ontario's communities are supported and protected by law enforcement and public safety systems that are safe, secure, effective, efficient and accountable.

14 Emergency Management Unit Setting the Table  City of Ottawa  Emergency Management & Civil Protection Act  2.1 (1)...shall develop and implement an emergency management program and the council of the municipality shall by by-law adopt the emergency management program. 2002, c. 14, s. 4.

16 Emergency Management Unit  Local response agencies and services have the legislated, statutory and jurisdictional authority  There are a few exceptions;  Federally  War, Terrorism  Provincially  Provincially declared Emergencies, Public Health Setting the table

17 Emergency Management Unit  Provincial assistance is deployed only upon request of a Municipality;  The municipal Community Emergency Management Coordinator can request assistance from the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre  A municipality cannot directly request federal assistance, but;  The Province can go to the Federal level to get that assistance for a municipality In very rare circumstances, will the province come in and direct the response.
