Found Poetry Poetry that is created from taking text written by someone else and arranging the sentence and adding punctuation to create new meaning or a new poem. The poem is “found” in another piece of writing.
Example from Twilight I shouldn't have. His tone was hard. "Your thinking is insane. Challenged doesn't matter." Gritting teeth and Gasped deep breaths paused. My curious, composed voice Was suddenly old. How long had I been staring at the road While please that he was honest? Eyes worried wider during the daytime, Burned by the sun. -words/ phrases from page 185 of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer From www.youngwritersproject.com
Diary of a Wimpy Kid To give you an idea of how people will go out of their way to stay away from the Cheese, it’s sitting right under the only hoop with a net in it, but nobody’s played on that court for a year. (Day 4)
Steps Find a piece of text (can be from a novel, an article, a cartoon, etc) Choose a couple of sentences that you like. Re-format the sentence to create a poem. E.g. “He walked quickly and grabbed her hand.” He walked. Quickly grabbed Her Hand. Then publish!!
