Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes1 Information and Communication Technology Integration Theme* Emerging Theme Expanding the scope of previous focus on Post-secondary education Responsive to continued, rapid deployment of technology in all aspects of learning and performance *
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes2 Research Questions When addressing issues of learning and performance, does technology merely support existing structures and ways of doing things, perhaps increasing efficiency, but possibly inhibiting effectiveness? Can technology affect a genuine transformation in how people learn and perform, and if so, how and when?
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes3 Stakeholders All the stakeholders in the education system must ask, and obtain, valid, and reliable evidence addressing these questions. Schools (teachers, administrators, parents, students) Industry and Clients - all levels. Government (Policy makers and Public Service) Not For Profit Organizations
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes4 Research Activities Three, broadly defined methodologies to respond to these and related questions. 1.Assess state-of-the-art and state-of-the - practice technology integration by conducting research syntheses of the burgeoning empirical literature (in collaboration with the Systematic Review theme).
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes5 Research Activities - cont’d 2. Conduct primary research to examine the role that computer technology actually plays in the learning process in a variety of formal and informal educational environments, using the full range of research designs from experimental to ethnographic.
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes6 Research Activities - cont’d 3. Our intention over the next year is to develop an empirically validated model of successful practices in technology integration, and to examine means for implementing it.
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes7 Technology Uses Within the context of formal education, this research and development will explore five related ways that technology can be used for learning a) Designing curricula based on real-world problems into the classroom (physical and virtual);
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes8 Technology Uses (cont’d) b) providing scaffolds and tools to enhance learning; c) building local and global communities that include teachers, administrators, students, parents, practicing scientists, and other interested people;
Jan 11, 2007CSLP Themes9 Partnerships Through partnerships, we hope to promote change through the evidence- based development and refinement of tools, techniques, and understanding that promote effective practice. Partnerships are the cornerstone for widespread impact across an ever- expanding network.
