Problem Based Small Group Learning: KM support Kathleen Irvine Subject Librarian University of Stirling / NHS Highland email@example.com
What we did Developed protocol of resources with clinician input Identified key clinical questions by teleconference Searched resources to address the questions Produced short summarised answers with references Draft QA’d and final version drawn up
Achievements “this is absolutely fabulous, to coin a term - in fact I think that you have now done the majority of the work we needed for the module info section in one fell swoop […] you really have amazed me here - this puts the info sections of all our previous UK-based modules in the shade.”
Challenges Distance Time Clinician approaches vs librarian approaches A priori protocol was not always appropriate and levels of evidence not always applicable SLA Convincing clinicians Learning to summarise clinical information
Lessons leaned It will be time consuming Agree the format of the final document in advance Clinicians will not read more than 10 abstracts for a clinical topic! Direct answers are desirable, lots of statistics are not QA provides useful reassurance for KM leads
Next steps and Future Opportunities Development and implementation of the module by the clinical writers based on KM input Support for future PBSGL modules with networks of KM support across the country
