U NIT 106 – B ASIC M AKE - UP Factors to consider
F ACTORS A factor is something that you have to consider when you are planning to provide a make-up to a client
F ACE S HAPES There are 4 basic face shapes., these are – Oval, round, square & oblong The type of face shape determines where the blusher should be applied.
O VAL FACE SHAPE Thought of as the perfect face shape Apply the blusher to just underneath the cheek bones
R OUND FACE SHAPE Apply blusher in a triangle shape with the base of the triangle running in front of the ear
S QUARE FACE SHAPE Apply blusher in a circular pattern on the cheek bone
O BLONG FACE SHAPE Apply blusher along the cheek bone outwards towards the ear.
S KIN, HAIR & E YE C OLOUR Skin has either a warm (yellow) base or a cool (blue/pink) base. Make up must be selected to match the skin colour as well as the hair & eye colour
S KIN T YPE & T EXTURE Your foundation type needs to be matched to the skin type. Dry skin – lacking in oil – needs an oil based foundation. Oily skin – needs a water based foundation If the skin has a poor texture then a thicker covering (mousse) is needed. If the skin has a good texture then a lighter covering is needed
O CCASION The type of the occasion also affects the type of make- up that is applied. Day make-up Evening make up
F ASHION T RENDS Depending on the age of the client – fashion trends need to be considered
C ULTURAL F ACTORS Different cultures have different requirements
