It’s always been at the front line of ‘the sail and the plough’... for grain storage, fishing and boatbuilding......a byegone commercial heart not to be forgotton. This 150 yr old Grade 2 listed building now presents an opportunity for the whole community... … as we form a Maritime and Local History Visitor and Educational Resource Centre BBC Restoration Village will fund this project if enough people VOTE (from 28/7/06 til 2/8/06) for Tollesbury Granary Calls from a BT landline will cost £1, cost of calls from other networks and mobiles may vary. More than 75p from each call will go to ‘The Restoration Fund’ a BBC registered charity (no ) to help restore the winning building, providing it fulfils the conditions set out by the Charity’s Trustees

4 What Needs to be Done? Essential Repairs …to the structure and fabric as described by Engineers The Brian Morton Partnership within the Feasibility Study. Sound conservation philosophy is at the heart of the Mid Essex Historic Building Trust’s work. Flood Defence Work… currently flooding ~ 6 times per year but needing an impractical 1.5m elevation to avoid this, a mere 450 mm lift would reduce flooding to an exciting, educational, yet manageable once per year. You would be introduced to the tide tables when you book this Granary! Legal and Contractual Procurement… by the Mid Essex Historic Buildings Trust to ensure a loing term sustainable use for this listed building. Access for All… a discrete lift and a new external stairway will provide safe access whilst making the most of the spectacular 1st floor river views. 7 Who is Involved? Mid Essex Historic Buildings Trust …a registered charity whose sole purpose is to rescue listed buildings at risk for community benefit. Woodrolfe Boatyard … will release the building for community benefit. Tollesbury Granary Preservation Trust… will be formed to manage this important community asset on a ‘not for profit basis’ Tollesbury Heritage Group… will finally have a single home for local knowledge & historic artefacts and a ‘new’ venue for meetings and events Tollesbury Maritime & Natural History Educational Resource Centre… will host local and visiting schools to the wealth of social, economic, maritime and natural history that exists in and around Tollesbury Specialist Amenity Groups, RSPB, Essex Wildlife Trust, Ramblers Association, Photographic Clubs, etc, etc, etc,...will gain a new venue You are if you VOTE Tollesbury Granary on BBC Restoration Village From 28/7/06 til 2/8/06.
