Consultation on UK LLW Strategy Consultation document Scope – whole nuclear industry 7 main sections 14 consultation questions Background, strategy, implementation Consultation: 5 June 09 to 11 September 09
Launch Over 1000 stakeholders notified Direct communication: National Stakeholder Group NuLeAF Seminars Conferences (SD:Spur conference) Media interest: World Nuclear News, Nuclear Engineering and Power Engineering Magazine Local press around a number of NDA sites (e.g. John O’Groat Journal) An article for Energy Focus Magazine published at the beginning of September
Response to date Expecting 100+ responses Consultation Review Panel established: Multi-Discipline Team comprising NDA & LLWR 20 responses to date Largely supportive of the main themes Many responses cover implementation as well as strategy itself Focus on stakeholder engagement during implementation Ensuring value for money Proximity principle key issue Discussions with NuLeAF on coverage of planning issues International Responses
Looking forward Analysis of Responses Consultation Review Panel will look at each response Noted, Disagree, Drafting change, Strategy change Develop a generic response to each question
Looking forward Produce draft final strategy Ministerial review and sign off Present review response to the Low Level Waste Stakeholder Group and the National Stakeholder Group and local SSGs. Output and response to be reviewed by NDA Governance and WMSG The NDA response to the consultation will be published both electronically and in hard copy. Publish final strategy & Post Adoption Statement The final draft LLW strategy will be submitted for Government approval, with the objective to have the final strategy approved within Q4
