60  Metacognition is required in today’s classrooms.  Metacognition requires enormous effort, commitment, and strength from the teacher.  Dancers remain en pointe’ for just a few minutes at a time.  Teachers maintain this kind of “cognitive dance” for hours at a time. Education InSite
