SOER 2015 Part C – Country fiches - Reminder Focus: A series of summaries of national state of environment assessments, to show key environmental issues at country level Format: One country fiche per country, 4 pages each (based on a template and guidance by EEA to ensure some level of comparability) Basis: Prepared by the countries; country fiches should largely be based on – or provide summaries of – existing national SOE reports Eionet: Eionet gives feedback on template and guidance (Oct 2013), based on this NFP and/or NRC-SOE draft country fiches and update SERIS (estimated average workload: 10 to 15 days per country) CaCa

SOER 2015 Part C – Country fiches RoleWho EEA Part C Team Includes coordinating overall Part C activities including country fiches and cross country comparison fiches. Milan Chrenko, Cathy Maguire, Barbara Clark, Pawel Kazmierczyk … plus close interaction with SENSE-III team and EEA editing team Country fiche lead author Coordinates country fiche preparations; responsible for delivery and sign off of the country fiche to EEA. 5 SOER 2015 Part C – Country fiches Country fiches based on 4 sections, each guided by a key question: 1.What main areas / sectors / themes are addressed in your respective national state of the environment (SOE) report? (ca 300 words) 2.What are the key findings of the national SOE report? (ca 900 words) 3.What are the main policy responses to key challenges/environmental concerns in your country? (ca 600 words) 4.What country specific issues in state of environment reporting would you like to highlight? (ca 600 words) CaCa

SOER 2015 Part C – Country fiches To support drafting of country fiches, we offer a common structure, template and guidance: based on experience with SOER 2010 guidance document; limit country fiche to 4 pages – ca 2400 words (incl. 1-2 figures) - tbc; guidance document includes illustrative examples for authors; based primarily on existing national SOE reports (or similar reports); need to ensure links with SERIS, SENSE and other SOER 2015 parts; currently exploring, how to deliver draft (word file or online or …); we suggest working language for country fiches will be English; currently discussing editing support EEA can provide to countries … CaCa

SOER 2015 Part C – Cross-country comparison fiches - Reminder Focus: A series of indicator-based country comparisons for 8 selected themes based on existing EEA and Eurostat indicators Format: 8 cross-country comparison fiches, 4 pages each; each based on one established indicator; in SOER 2015 online scope to link this national intepretation of same indicator via SENSE Basis: Prepared by EEA; cross-country comparisons based on indicators with country information; supplemented by SENSE Eionet: Eionet feedback on indicator selection and method (Oct 2013); Eionet consultation on cross-country comparison fiches (Mar/Apr 2014); plus (voluntary) contributions to SENSE CbCb

SOER 2015 Part C – Cross-country comparison fiches Current CSI and other regular EEA indicators were assessed using the following criteria: indicator should be available in the Indicator Management System; indicator should be published on the EEA website; indicator should cover all EEA-33 countries, and preferably also address EEA cooperating countries; indicator should be updated regularly; national-level information should be available for at least one graph; indicator should be policy relevant; indicator should ideally be part of the EEA Core Set of Indicators; indicator should preferably be included in a Part B thematic fiche. 13 SOER 2015 Next steps – Eionet (1) Written comments on the proposed focal questions, draft template and guidance document for the ‘country fiches’ (Part C)  Based on NFP Document 7 - Annex; by 30 October 2013 In this context, please also consider: Who will be tasked as ‘country fiche lead author‘ in your country? Are 1 or 2 countries willing to develop ‘pilot‘ country fiches with us?
