FRANK TRENT Frank, Tucson’s tap master, will present choreography for the adult intermediate level in two separate classes. Paper Doll is a showy, fun routine that can be learned within these two classes and be performed with confidence. Most of the technique described below will be incorporated while learning the routine. Frank promises it will be fun! Classes will include tap turns, bio-mechanics for the mature dancer, balance, positioning, creation of clear and separated tap sounds and rhythm combinations. A performance opportunity will be extended to those who know the dance at Sunday’s 3 pm Community Performance.
COLLEEN KELLY BEAMAN Colleen will be teaching choreography to Avalon, (music by Vincent Rose, arrangement Hank Manson). It was played by Duke Ellington at the Cotton Club in NYC where the Kelly Brothers were sent to fill in at the last minute for a cancelled act. Their performance was the first to break the color barrier at the club. Colleen Kelly Beaman BFA,MEd., EdD, is a third generation Kelly dancer who teaches for Pima Community College and O.A.S.I.S. She has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dallas Dance Council and conducts master classes around the country on the Kelly Style of dance.
KP BLACK KP is a Chicago transplant and a dance addict who is taking steps to make sure everyone is dancing with her on this 20 th anniversary of NTDD! This year KP wants you to get a feel for what it was like to be Fred & Ginger in Bouncin’ the Blues from The Barkleys of Broadway (1949). This was their last movie together (after being apart for ten years) and Ginger stepped in to take Judy Garland’s place. It’s a fun and energetic piece that can be done alone or with a partner. Steps will be broken down slowly. Detailed notes will be provided.
SUZY GUARINO Suzy is a high energy teacher from Phoenix and will be teaching rhythm tap to rock/acoustic music by some of her favorite artists: Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Jack Johnson & Foo Fighters. The level is high int/adv and will focus on musicality and integrating tap technique with crisp sounds that highlight a song's best features. Her choreography "sings" with the music and dancers will experience a different approach to learning a dance and listening to how it fits with the music. Suzy is director of Tap 24.7 and you can read more about her at
JENEFER MILLER Jenefer received her B.A. in Performing Arts from Oakland University and her choreography "Down on Wall Street" was aired on ABC for the Showstopper American Dance Championships. She has appeared on stage with Tap 24.7, VIB Dance Theatre, Especially Tap Chicago, the Detroit Tap Festival, and Oakland Dance Theatre and performed in shows alongside Fayard Nicholas, Dianne Walker, Lane Alexander, Savion Glover & Rhythm ISS. You will discover the world’s most clever rhythms in Jenefer’s class utilizing various styles of music. Improvisation will be explored in a comfortable environment. Be ready to listen and relax your feet and mind to create patterns like no other! Use this class as a warm-up for your Saturday night performance.
