Opportunities for Minority Students Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral & Dissertation Fellowship for Minorities Amount: $12,000. Deadline: January 3 National Defense Science & Engineering & Graduate Fellowship Program Amount $16,218. A Look into STEM Graduate Students in Black America African Americans Studying STEM: Parsing the Numbers Blacks represented 5.3% of graduate enrollment in STEM fields in 2001. They earned just 2.5% of all STEM doctorate degrees granted in 2005.
