8 Conditions That Lead To Downfall Isaiah 56:9-12 v. 10 - Those who were appointed to guard the interest of the people and defend the cause of truth. Guards were stationed on the wall to warn of approaching danger. Prophets were watchmen (Jeremiah 6:17) Ezekiel 3:17-19

9 Two Deadly Deficiencies In The Watchman Isaiah 56:10- They were blind and ignorant. Unable to see the danger because they lacked knowledge necessary to discern right from wrong (Hebrews 5:11-14; I Kings 3:9) If danger came upon the people, these watchmen would be unable to determine the seriousness. A blind man serving as a watchman. They were unable to speak.

10 continued They were mute watch dogs. Even if they were to see danger coming, the watchmen could not or would not sound the warning. Refused to acknowledge the dangers that were apparent everywhere. Notice what the watchmen did (Isaiah 56:12). They call for the watchmen to join them in partaking in intoxicating beverages.

11 continued Under the influence of alcohol they could forget any obligation they had to the nation and become numb to any responsibility. In their minds it would be as worry-free and self- indulging tomorrow as it is today.
