It’s Kind Of A Funny Story By Ned Vizzini N Q Period 5 September 2013
Introduction The novel is about a boy named Craig. Craig suffers from anxiety and depression. He checks himself into a psychiatric ward. There he discovers who he really is
Setting It takes place in a mental ward in an Upper Middle Class Manhattan neighborhood. The ward is in a hospital and is fairly nice.
Characters Craig is the protagonist in the novel. The antagonist in the novel is Craig’s “tentacles. Craig is 15 years old. Craig is a loner at school.
Static Character The static character is Nia. Nia does not change throughout the novel. She remains ignorant and hurts Craig. She is 15 years old and Aaron’s girlfriend.
Dynamic Character The dynamic Character is Craig. Craig changes throughout the novel. Craig starts to eat in the ward, he also makes friends and realizes that he can cope with his depression.
Conflict Between Protagonist and Antagonist Craig battling his depression and his “tentacles”. The tentacles is a metaphor for the things in life that distract him from what he needs to get done.
Beginning Craig checks into a psychiatric ward because he was feeling suicidal. Craig makes some friends in the hospital. Craig starts to feel fortunate compared to the others that are there.
Middle Craig decides he wants to draw maps of brains. He also decides he likes a girl named Noelle. He realizes that his family is a key part of his life.
Ending Craig decides that he wants to transfer out of his prep school into an art school. Craig also finds out that he can cope with his depression as long as he has Noelle.
About the Author Ned Vizzini is an American writer who is 32 years old. He is the author of 4 best selling novels and has written for many different TV shows as well. His work has been sorted into 25 different languages and he lives in Los Angeles.
