Using the Alberta Context Tool in Sweden – Reliability and response processes Lars Wallin KU09 Wales

2 Translation and adaptation –ACT was translated by the research group and back translated by a native English speaking person (PhD working as language reviewer) –In the translation (from English to Swedish) focusing more on the actual and conceptual meaning than word-by-word translation, “cultural sensitivity” –High degree of concordance in back translation, –Overall a relatively straight forward process (no item caused major problem)

3 Two pilot tests –Acute care (orthopaedic units) –Registered nurses from 6 units at 6 different hospitals –119/212 nurses, response rate 56% –Nursing homes –Registered nurses and Licensed practical nurses from 10 nursing homes in 2 municipalities –159/288 nurses, response rate 55% (131 LPN, 24 RN)

4 Reliability (Cronbach alpha) Orthopaedic units Nursing Homes Leadership Culture Evaluation Information Sharing Interactions Information Sharing Activities Information Sharing Social Processes0.68 Structural and Electronic Resources Organizational Slack

5 Response processes Orthopaedic units –Missing data 1-3% per item –67% perceived ACT to relevant, having good but difficult questions –30% had comments like: “strange”, “risk for misinterpretation”, “too extensive” –3% “not relevant” for night shift staff Nursing homes –Missing data from 4% (information sharing activities) to 26% (structural and electronic resources) –67% perceived ACT relevant –53% reported it was easy to answer –9% had problems with some questions (“complicated”, “unclear”, “not relevant for the current organisation”)

6 Further work –Some changes (wording) made based on results from pilot tests –Consider content in the subscales that did not behave well –Planning to use ACT in larger study in the fall
