Population describe the number of people who inhabit a place. AgeLocationEconomic activity Child.- younger than sixteen Adult.- from sixteen to sixty-four Elderly.- sixty- five or older Urban.- in a large town or city, work in industry or services. More than ten thousand inhabitants. Rural.- in a village, work in agriculture.Fewer than ten thousand inhabitants. Active.- work and earn a salary or look for a work Inactive.- don’t earn a salary (volunteers)
The ABSOLUTE POPULATION is the number of inhabitants in that area. NATURAL INCREASE : difference between the number of births and the number of deaths. Positive natural increase: the birth rate is highere Negative natural increase: the death rate is higher Census.- Survey of all the people in the country. It’s organised every ten years. Causes of a decrease Natural.- earthquakes. Social.- wars. Economic.- better job opportunities.
Today, Spain’s population is about froty-six million inhabitants. In 1990, there were approximately eighteen million inhabitants. There are two main reasons for this increase: Positive natural oincrease.- there’s a better quality of life and so people are living longer. Positive actual increase.- Many more people come to Spain than leave it. Population density show us how populated an area is. population Population density = square kilometres
