2 This presentation is a resource to assist with teaching students to read large numbers by identifying periods an place value. Slide #6 can be printed and used in math notebooks. There is opportunity to assess student understanding, so make sure students have pencil and paper (or math notebooks) available.

7 1.Read the numbers before the comma as if you were reading in the one’s period. (Example: 485) 2. Then name the period you are in when you get to the comma. 3.You don’t have to name the ones period. 4.You DON’T say the word AND in these numbers
