© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 The breathing system is used by the body to get the oxygen needed for respiration.

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 objectivesKey words * Know the definition of cellular respiration. Give the word and formula equations for aerobic respiration. Mention two types of cellular respiration. Cellular Respiration Aerobic respiration An aerobic respiration التنفس الخلوي Cellular Respiration

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 The blood carries oxygen and glucose to all the bodys cells so that respiration happen. ؟؟ Mitochondrion

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 Glucose + oxygen carbon dioxide + water + energy C 6 H 12 O O 2 6 CO H 2 O K The Equations Cellular Respiration : is the breakdown of glucose to make energy using oxygen.

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 We have two types of respiration Aerobic respiration التنفس الهوائـــــــــي في وجود الاكسجين An aerobic respiration التنفس اللاهوائــــــي في عدم وجود الاكسجين

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 26 aerobic When the body is able to supply the cells with the oxygen and glucose that they need, it carries out aerobic respiration. Anaerobic respiration anaerobic When the body cannot supply the cells with the oxygen needed to break down glucose, then it has to carry out anaerobic respiration. Energy is released without oxygen: Aerobic and anaerobic respiration Aerobic respiration carbon dioxide glucose oxygen water energy lactic acid energy glucose

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 objectivesKey words * Know that the rate of respiration is affected by temperature & oxygen concentration 1-Aerobic respiration 2-oxygen 3-temperature Factors affecting of cellular respiration

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of Key words 1- Know the definition of photosynthesis. 2- How to write the photosynthesis equation. Photosynthesis Chlorophyll Biomass

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 Structure of a leaf How are leaves designed to maximise photosynthesis? Leaves have holes, called stomata, on their underside through which gases move in and out. Leaves have lots of veins to carry water to the cells and carry glucose away. Leaves are wide and flat to create a large surface area and absorb as much light as possible. Leaves are thin so gases can reach cells easily.

© Boardworks Ltd of 57 carbon dioxide water oxygen light energy chlorophyll glucose Photosynthesis where it happens? Green Plants use light energy from the Sun to power photosynthesis. Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts. Chloroplasts contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll absorbs the energy from sunlight that allows carbon dioxide and water to react. Where in the leaf does this reaction take place?

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 Photosynthesis Is a process in which green plants use sun energy and chlorophyll to make its own food.

© Boardworks Ltd of 57 Investigating photosynthesis - apparatus

© Boardworks Ltd of 57 Investigating photosynthesis - experiment

© Boardworks Ltd of 20 © Boardworks Ltd of 24 How do plants grow? Plant cells in the upper surface of leaves have chloroplasts which contain the green pigment called chlorophyll. oxygen glucose carbon dioxide (from the air) water (from the soil) light energy It is chlorophyll that absorbs light energy from the Sun to make photosynthesis happen. chlorophyll
