7 How to conjugate a word and learn about infinitives and subjects
In Spanish there are three different categories of verbs. The category is placed by the last two letters of the infinitive: ar verbs- like hablar, er verbs- like leer,ir verbs- like vivir The infinitive is the base form of the verb such as to speak, to eat to live etc. In Spanish all infinitives end in ar, er and ir. To conjugate a verb means to take off the infinitive so that it agrees with the different possible subject. Here is the present tense conjugation of the infinitive ‘to speak’. To speak, I speak, he speaks, she speaks and more. The present tense in spanish can mean three things the Spanish phrase ‘yo hablo’ can mean, I speak, I am speaking and I do speak. Spanish infinitives are divided into to parts the ending and the stem. The ending is the last two letters of the verb. Remember all infinitives end in ar, er and ir. The stem is everything that is left after you have took the ending off.

8 About the subject In Spanish you conjugate verbs by changing the ending. If the subject is I (yo) conjugate the word by adding an o. e.g. yo hablo (hablar-ar+o=hablo) I am speaking, I speak, I do speak. The rest was abit hard to understand so we will leave it at that! So basically what we have just learnt is to drop the infinitive and add the subject ( on this page anyway).
