#1 Fidel Castro is a great example of a leader. He has awful foreign connections he made huge decision without giving his people a voice and he tried to be sneaky and send prisoners to the US.
#2 After learning more about Fidel Castro, I believe that he was both a good and bad leader. I believe this because he emptied Cuban jails and sent the people to the US, he increased the education level in Cuba, and his foreign policy was weak.
#3 Castro was a good leader because he had good intention, a freedom fighter, and was a strong and prepared leader.
#4 Castro was a good leader to his country because he improved education, signed a five year plan with the USSR, and he helped extend better health Care for his people.
#5 Fidel Castro was a good leader to his country because he improved education, made free health care, and erected freedom through an almost bloodless revolution.
Introduction Task: Revise your topic proposal and submit the new introduction with the old topic proposal. You will be able to create a meaningful introduction to your paper.
Topic Proposal My topic is how Latinos affect policy and government in the United States. Latinos have been elected to high positions in the legislative, executive, and judicial branch and I am doing to discuss the impact that Latinos have had on all three braches of government.
I. Opening The topic and why it is interesting –How do you hook in your readers? historical review- a little about the past anecdotal – a story surprising statement- something shocking, joyful, etc. declarative- straight forward.
Example Latin Americans have had an impact in the United States since America defeated Mexico in the Mexican-American War in 1848 (cite). By annexing 1/3 of Mexico’s territory, we also added in the Spanish and Indigenous people living in the land. Today, due to the ancestors of these people, as well as increased immigration from Latin America, Latinos in the United States influence the United States’ government and policy.
II. Fixing up your opinion and 3 reasons to support your opinions The Thesis Statement – Your thesis statement should be specific—it should cover only what you will discuss in your paper and should be supported with specific evidence. – It can be adjusted.
How to do this 1. Get rid of all “I’s” and “?” Remember, you can have an educated opinion without using the pronoun “I”. Ex. I feel that illegal immigration is harming our society Illegal immigration is harming American society. Ex. How is our economy effected by illegal immigration? I will tell you. (State, do not question.) If not for illegal immigration, our economy would collapse due to lack of people to work certain agricultural jobs.
Example In fact, Latin Americans make up 16% of the United States’ population (cite). Thus, they have a large impact on American society. Latinos are effecting policy making by mobilizing and encouraging Latinos to get elected or nominated into high-level offices in the government. States, such as California, Texas, and Florida are experiencing a rise in Latino involvement. Latinos are electing congressional officials who will affect Latino education and income such as Ted Cruz, an influential Cuban-American. The executive branch can rely on the support of Latinos, demonstrated by the election of 2008, when President Barack Obama was elected due to support of the Latino population. Finally, the first Latina Sonia Sotomayor was appointed to the judicial branch. (Followed by a wrap up sentence)
Writing the Paper Each paragraph should have a topic sentence AND a wrap-up analysis sentence. – Deforestation is negatively impacting the lives of the natives who live in the Amazon.
