Is Modern Culture Challenging Our Faith?
Cultural Standards Are Being Upheld!! Greta Hawkins, a principal at PS 90 in Brooklyn, New York, banned the Lee Greenwood song God Bless The USA, also known as Proud to Be An American, from a kindergarten graduation ceremony, (The New York Daily News reports). The New York Post reports five classes at the elementary school spent months learning the patriotic song in anticipation of performing it at the ceremony, but Hawkins canceled the performance at a recent rehearsal, allegedly saying she didn't want to offend other cultures.
Cultural Standards Are Being Upheld!! Department of Education spokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti told the Post the song was scrapped from the performance because the lyrics were deemed inappropriate for the kindergartners. spokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti told the Postspokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti told the Post But Hawkins, a Jehovahs Witness who refrains from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance due to her religion, will allow the Justin Bieber song Baby to be performed at the June 20th commencement (CBS New York reports).
When We Have A Desire To Uphold The Banner Of Truth We Will Be Ostracized. Gods people will always be out of step with the direction in which the world chooses to go! De we have the desire to uphold the truth (2Timothy 3:12)? Do we believe a concept that says, What feels right is the standard (Proverbs 14:12)? Are we willing to suffer for righteousness sake (1Peter 3:13-17)?
Decisions Made Using Different Standards. Joseph in Egypt (Genesis 39:9). Joseph could have committed adulterywho would have known? He determined to remain faithful to God, despite his circumstances and the thinking of the day. Daniel in Babylon (Daniel 1:8). Daniel was in captivity; he could just go along with the Babylonian customs. He determined to remain faithful to the Lord, in spite of the culture in which he was then living.
Decisions Made Using Different Standards. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in Babylon (Daniel 3:18). They were in captivity. They could just go along with the Babylonian customs. No matter what God did--spare their lives or allow them to be taken--they were not going to compromise their faith. They remained faithful.
Decisions Made Using Different Standards. Esther in Persia (Esther 4:16). Haman schemed to destroy all the Jews in Persia. Esther was in a position to attempt to stop his plot. But it meant defying cultural standards and going into the kings presence. Her courage and faith saved Gods people from destruction by Haman.
Decisions Made Using Different Standards. Early Christians in Rome (Rev. 2:10). The Roman Empire was persecuting Gods people. They could escape by accepting Caesar as God. Yet, they refused to submit to cultural standard and accepted the consequences.
Decisions Made Using Different Standards. The spread of the Muslim religion (Eph. 4:4-6; Gal. 1:6-9). The Bible says, One Faith. Infidels threaten our religion and must be removed. Can we sit silently and accept their religious views.
Different Conclusions; Different Standards. The issue of homosexuality (Romans 1:26). For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
Different Conclusions; Different Standards. The issue of homosexuality (Romans 1:27). Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
Different Conclusions; Different Standards. The issue of Abortion (Proverbs 6:16). A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood. The cultural standard is Pro-Choice. The cultural standard is Sex-selection Abortion.
Hold your ground!! Do not compromise the faith (1Cor. 16:13). Trust in the Lord. Allow His Word to guide You (Isaiah 55:11). Never be ashamed. Do not become timid or silent (Romans 8: 31-32). Do not allow the world to mold you (Romans 12:2). Divine truth is the Only answer (1Peter 3:15). No matter what the culture determines, our path is already decided.
