2 Weekly Spelling and Journal Directions 1. Copy five spelling words, their definition(s) and sample sentence(s) the first two meeting days per week. The spelling test on these words will be given the following week.(10 words X 4 points each = 40 points per week.) 2.Look at the journal topics on the board. Select one and respond each class period. Date your entry (1 pt. per day) and then follow it with a two-paragraph response. (10-12 sentences, up to 10 pts. per day) If you use one of the days spelling words correctly in one of your sentences of your journal response, you will be awarded four extra points! Only four extra credit points per day. You must underline the word. (These sentences must be your original creation that demonstrate that you understand the words definition.) 3.Keep your spelling lists and journals in a notebook neatly and in order (unless you have been absent). Add these in the next available space.

3 If You Are Absent: If you have been absent, it is your responsibility to make up the entries you missed. You may get them from the lesson plan book by door or you may get them from a classmate. In accordance with the school absence policy, you have the number of days absent to make up the missed spelling and journal entries. It is your responsibility to show the teacher your make-up work to get credit within the allotted time.

4 Spelling and Journal Points Date each days work – 1 pt. each day = 2 pts Copying each spelling word correctly – 1 pt each = 10 Copying definition(s) listed for each word – 1 pt = 10 Copying sample sentence(s) for each word – 1 pt = 10 Journal entry (2 paragraphs) - up to 10 pts Total possible points per week w/o extra credit = 42 pts. Possible with extra credit per day (4X4) – 8 pts. Total possible per week - 50 pts. Weekly Spelling test - 40 pts. Total possible Spelling Challenge per week 90 pts.
