Components of the conceptual understanding/model as described in the Monitoring Guidance for WFD implementation

The implementation of the project was organized in 3 components: I. Preparation of survey i.e. collection and preparation of available information, data and thematic maps II. Chemical survey of groundwaters Spring sampling Sampling of existing wells Drilling and well construction + sampling Chemical analyses III. Documentation of data gained in the survey and recommendations Documentation in electronic form Evaluation of project results Recommendation for monitoring network

Sampling sites

RiskResponses Data of chemical analysis are not sufficient for national extrapolation  Sampling and analyses according to the ToR (enough analyses)  Previous experiences of GTK, BRGM, MÁFI in large groundwater projects Delay in field works (drilling) because of unfavourable weather conditions  Work with 6 drilling teams  Work simultaneously on different sites of the country  Work with mobile drilling teams  Back-up drilling teams from ELGOSCAR Too many samples arriving in a short period to the laboratory  Reasonable logistics and timing of sampling  Back-up laboratories of GTK and BRGM Failure of equipment, resulting in the required capacity not being met.  Being in possession of important spare parts  Work with own repairing teams in the field  Knowledge of repairing workshops in the settlements nearby the drilling activity  More drilling teams Drilling goes on in the growing season, and this may cause some resentment among farmers due to crop damage, possibly complicating access to drilling sites.  Drilling mainly outside the growing season  Permission from farmers on time  Information campaign for the local communities Due to extreme dry weather conditions aquifer is in deep  Consortium has prepared to drill deeper  Since summer 2004 was exceptionally rainy, the Consortium assumes that the depth of water table can deviate from the long term mean one direction or the other. Risks and appropriate response

The delay in start of spring and well sampling was mainly due to : Long process of approving the new representative list of springs and wells. The final list was accepted in middle of March 2005 The winter in Hungary was exceptionally long and snowy in 2005 making the fieldwork difficult. Rapid snow melting and heavy rains after winter prevented sampling on several localities in the period end of March - beginning of April 2005 But we received prolongation due to the above mentioned reasons

Cooperation with all partners and stakeholders went smoothly in mutual understanding and hard work! Thank you! Köszönöm!
