**Homework Answers 4. 2t – 8 = 70 5. 5(m + n) = 7n 6. A = 1/2bh**

7. C = 2r 8. 14 plus d equals 6 times d – 3x = 9 14. 2r + 3s = 13 15. 1/3q + 25 = 2q 16. m2 – n3 = 16 17. 2(v + w) = 2z 26. V = r2h 29. d minus 14 is 5 30. The sum of 2 times f and 6 is 19. 31. The sum of k squared and 17 is equal to the difference of 53 and j. 32. Two times a is equal to the difference of 7 times a and b.

**Evaluating Rational Expressions**

Lesson 13 Evaluating Rational Expressions

3
Evaluating! Evaluating an expression is when you perform the indicated operations in an expression to get a final answer. In order to evaluate an expression, you must be provided numerical values that you can “REPLACE” in the expression.

4
P.E.M.D.A.S When evaluating expressions, ORDER OF OPERATIONS is important!! When you replace a number for a letter it is best you place a parentheses around the number so that you evaluate the expression properly. Example: If a = -2 and b = 3, what is the result of a2-ab? (-2)2 – (-2)(3) 4 – (-6) 10

5
**Try these Evaluate 2a – 3b if a = -1, b = 5**

Evaluate -3x2 + 2y if x = 2, y = 4 Evaluate 4st – 2t + v if t = 2, s = -2, v = 3 Evaluate 2(x – 3y)/6xy2 if x = 3, y = 2 Evaluate a2 – (b3 – 4c) if a = 7, b = 3, c = 5 Write the expression for 3 times a number (x) plus 5 times another number (y) squared Evaluate your expression if x = -3 and y = 2
