D Distriktskonferanse 17 oktober 04 1 Rotary Coaching: A Baltic-Scandinavian Management Training, concept Rotary Coaching is a program for training and establishing contacts between young managers in the Baltic countries and Scandinavia. Rotary Coaching is a management-training program primarily for young Rotarians although non-Rotarians are not excluded. Good management is of vital importance to the success of both Scandinavian and Baltic firms and organizations. Criteria for good management and management styles are different in the two cultures. Therefore, managers from both cultures will learn and improve in management style by visiting and shadowing each other in the manner described below.
D Distriktskonferanse 17 oktober 04 2 Concept- in detail A manager from a Baltic firm or organization visits a Norwegian manager for one week with the purpose to study Norwegian management He or she “shadows” the Norwegian manager to study how management is done in this particular company or organization, and how is this particular manager is doing his or her job. Special interests from the visiting managers like accounting, marketing, logistics or IT will be addressed during the week. One or two months later, the Norwegian manager visits the Baltic manager with the purpose to shadow his or her work one week. The teams who are shadowing each other in this manner during the same period meet to sum up, compare experience and debrief under the leadership of the Rotary project manager.
D Distriktskonferanse 17 oktober 04 3 Selection and matching of managers and organizations is critical to the success of the process. The managers should preferably be young: between 25 and 45 in age. They should be in top or leadership-team position in a small organization, or in a similar position in a division of a larger cooperation or organization. Companies or organizations should have similarities in purpose thus increasing the chance for future cooperation. All branches: Industrial, service and governmental organizations like hospitals, military, universities, schools as well as NGO`s should be asked to find and sponsor candidates for this program. Both managers should be fluent in English, which will be the working language during the visiting weeks for private talks as well as for company meetings.
D Distriktskonferanse 17 oktober 04 4 The process will bring Baltic and Scandinavian cultures in closer contact, increase cultural awareness from both sides, and promote friendship across borders. The selection of candidates requires close cooperation between Rotary clubs in several countries, thus promoting Rotary cooperation across borders. If the chemistry between the two matching managers is good, there is a good probability that the process will continue and open up for future cooperation both between the managers and organizations involved and between Rotary clubs. Information about the five candidates have been sent to all presidents 3.First RC week with Baltic managers visiting partners in Norway: End January Reciprocal visit to Latvia and Lithuania in Feb-March 05 5.Debriefing and evaluation of the program late spring 05 6.If positive evaluation, start of new and extended program autumn 05
