Competence for labour market and integration Our projects - an overview KUMULUS-PLUS is an EQUAL Development Partnership of several projects in Berlin and Rostock, with the objective to integrate adults with migrant background into the labour market - Arbeit & Bildung e.V. is co- ordinating this network KUMULUS offers vocational guidance and counselling, promotes youth with migrant backgrounds in vocational training places and cooperates with all stakeholders in vocational education bridge is an EQUAL project, focussing on the integration of refugees by developing their basic vocational skills Jobconnect / PQB (P raktische Q ualifizierung im B etrieb), these projects organise workexperiences in small and medium-sized companies for young people under 25 Aktivierungshilfen (activating resources) offers job-orientation through counselling and placement into workexperiences, in order to integrate young people in vocational education in companies BVQB ( B erufsausbildung v orbereitung mit Q ualifizierungs b austeinen) is an additional programme within the framework of pre-vocational training, offering training modules concerning occupational orientation and support for work experience opportunities in some high schools

Competence for labour market and integration KUMULUS Vocational guidance and advancement through training for young people with migrant backgrounds 1993 initiated by the former Commissioner for Foreign Affairs of the Senate of Berlin - Barbara John multicultural team with experiences in guidance for vocational training, sociopedagogical counselling and cross-cultural competencies cooperation with secondary schools, career counsellors of the employment agencies, chambers and trade boards, employers, multiplicators KUMULUS is a project of Arbeit & Bildung e.V. financed by the Commissioner for Integration and Migration of the Senate of Berlin and the European Social Fund

Competence for labour market and integration KUMULUS-PLUS – EQUAL Development Partnership Career guidance and vocational training, job-placement or self-employment for adults with migrant background (age over 22 years) Start up in July 2005 (2nd round of EQUAL), financed by the EU (ESF), the German Employment Agency and the German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs Coordination of a network of individual projects in the region of Berlin and Rostock. The network provides direct individual counselling (in different languages), vocational profiling / potential assessment, (re-) qualification courses and coaching for self-employment, job-placement Networking on a national (IQ Network) and transnational (New labour market possibilities) level – exchange of professional competences

Competence for labour market and integration Strategies and innovative instruments Involving migrant self organisations to get a high level of insight knowledge about needs and a better access to the different communites Involving mixed cultural teams in order to develop a cultural sensitive perspective and to enhance the level of intercultural competencies Network coaching to develop common standards and exchanges of methods / to establish linked offers Optimisation through methods to analyse competencies Use of a common database to enhance the information flow between offers – to guarantee transparency Workshops for professionals (intercultural training a.o.)

Competence for labour market and integration Lessons learned and recommendations Orientation on resources, recognition of all qualifications (formal and non-formal) Flexible methods and tools for individual solutions Networking = colaboration of different partners, linked offers using same standards / shared know-how Searching for culture-sensitive approaches / perspectives – using intercultural competencies On the job training combined with language courses Using the way of communication of the target group (direct contact, community media a.o.) Managing diversity in public institutions and companies – top down and bottom up systems A campaign to change the images in society needs partners of all levels – politicians, public institutions and private organisations
