There are three types of Spanish infinitive verbs: -ar -er -ir

Given the following subjects and conjugated verbs, can you figure out the corresponding –er verb endings for each subject? Yo como una hamburguesa. Tú comes unas papas fritas. Manuel come una torta. Nosotros comemos los tacos. Vosotros coméis el chile con queso. Los chicos comen las hamburguesas.

8 To conjugate an –er verb in the present tense you: CHOP & GLUE
CHOP: Chop off the –er ending of the verb. Com er -- After you chop, you’re left with the root of the verb.

9 To conjugate an –er verb in the present tense you: CHOP & GLUE
GLUE: Glue the –er set of endings to the root of the verb. -o -emos -es -éis -e -en

16 The –ir verb endings are similar to the –er verbs endings.
-ir verbs The –ir verb endings are similar to the –er verbs endings. Look carefully and see if you notice the difference.

17 -ir verbs **NOTE: -ir verbs are NOT the same as the verb, ir, which means to go.**

18 To conjugate an –ir verb in the present tense you: CHOP & GLUE
CHOP: Chop off the –ir ending of the verb. Viv ir -- After you chop, you’re left with the root of the verb.

CHOP: Chop off the –er ending of the verb. After you chop, you’re left with the root of the verb. GLUE: Glue the –er ending to the root of the verb.
