1 CSDCCS and its commitment towards newcomers

2 Le Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud (CSDCCS) CSDCCS welcomes more than students in its 44 elementary and 10 secondary schools over at territory ranging from the Niagara peninsula to Peterborough and from Lake Ontario to the Georgian Bay. The mission of the Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre- Sud is to offer students a quality education in a francophone Catholic environment. Values such as respect for the individual, equity, the promotion of excellence and a spirit of belonging to the Franco-Ontarian community are the core of our mission in helping students to reach their full potential. The board headquarters are based Toronto.

3 CSDCCS INITIATIVES Given the high number of newcomers in its schools, CSDCCS has committed to implementing welcoming and integration programs as part of its strategic plan.

4 Integration model includes inputs from both within and outside the school board

5 Internal strategies PANA ( Programme dappui aux nouveaux arrivants ) A program which faciltates socio-cultural and academic integration. ALF ( Actualisation linguistique du français ) Community liaison Community partnerships and liaison.

6 4 community liaison officers : 1.Toronto-Durham : Adolphine Mukamanzi , extension Peel-Halton, Kitchener-Waterloo: Marie-Pierre Daoust , extension 73162

7 4 community liaison officers : 3. Hamilton-Niagara Franklin Leukam , extension York-Simcoe : Nadia Martins

8 PIVOT PROJECT Financed by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Various activities and programs in support of newcomer integration initiatives, developped and delivered in partnership with community and not-for-profit organizations. Successful examples include: Information sessions for post-secondary education, Physical activity programs.

9 PIVOT PROJECT Summer camps in Toronto and Hamilton Toronto visits and orientation operations Culinary celebrations Multicultural events

10 TÉÉ (Swis workers in schools) 2 models : In partnership with community organizations and as a direct administrator. As direct administrator, sub-partnership agreements have been put in place.

14 EMERGING TRENDS and ISSUES New waves of immigration Labour and employment issues Youth activity programs and support Immigration concentrations and mixed school populations Timeline for support - beyond the traditional model

15 In conclusion CSDCCSs goal is to foster a welcoming environment and promote successful school integration, at all grade levels This cannot be done alone. Partners are essential in building an inclusive strategy. A students success is entirely related to the degree with which the entire family has integrated.
