The Artic Tern By Gina Class 4A Seoul International School
Habitat The artic tern breeds in the Artic Circle, but flies to the Antarctic Ice Pack each winter. It flies roughly the circumference of the earth. The artic tern uses rock cliffs for a nest. It lays its eggs on bare rock.
Adaptation Artic terns can hover in midair. This is important when it fishes. Artic tern eggs are the same color as their nest. This gives them camouflage.
The Food Web insects shrimp invertebrates fish crustaceans foxes weasels gulls Predators Foxes *Raccoons Weasels *Gulls The * indicates that the predators eat the artic terns eggs. Prey Insects Shrimp Invertebrates Fish Crustaceans raccoons
Interesting Facts Artic tern eggs are laid in grassy areas for protection from predators and because there are no trees in the Artic. During courtship male terns fly a fish flight. They catch a small fish and fly as low as they can to a female on the ground. If she notices him she will join him and will mate soon. Artic terns do everything to stay out of water. They dont swim well even though they have webbed feet.
