Word Order Adverbs of frequency go before the principal verb, or after the first auxiliary in a compound tense. Ils se placent devant le verbe principal, ou après le premier auxiliaire aux temps composé. My wife always gets up before me. We have often watched that program on TV. I would never have come if you hadnt bought my ticket. Or, after the verb to be in simple tenses: She is rarely late.

Word Order Adverbs of time generally go at the start or end of a phrase Ils se placent généralement en début ou en fin de phrase. Today Ill work until 7pm. We allowed her to have a pet eventually. ---However, these rules are often strict and there are exceptions: Toutefois, ces règles ne sont pas très strictes et il y a souvent des exceptions…. She was very noisy, and we soon got bored of her.
