Comuna Pietrari is situated in the north-central part of the Valcea county, in the area of high points of Getic Sub-Carpathian Hills, on the both shores of the middle course of Otăsău (affluent of the Bistrita river ), in depression Otasau, wich is integrated in Sub-Carpathian oltenian depression PIETRARI

3. Our locality has two villages: Pietrari and Pietrari de Sus. It has an area of 1947 hectares; population =3304.( at the and of 2008 year) The relief is mostly hilly, with altitudes that are no higher than 500 meters. An early habitation of ceorls (mosneni), the human community has longs origins on the village teritory. Material traces of neolotics cultures were identified by chance after diggins in the Ograzi hamlet. Fragments of ceramics were extracted, axes made of stone and bronze, also traces of constructions made from stone. Another discovery, made by chance, and wich confirmes that this space was inhabited from the oldest times, was made in Pietrari de Sus when in 26 th of april 1902, several natives found during spring agricultural works, in Tobulesti point, a thesaurus of geto-dacian coins, stored in an clay pot. It was possible to recover only 44 tetradrahms wich are stored at the Archeological Institute in Bucharest. The 1536 year remains the year of documentary attestation of Pietrari village by a document emited by Radu Paisie Voievod who conffirmed the estate ("ocina) in Pietrari for "Negomir and his brother Coman"

8. We are keepers of folklore traditions! HORA COSTUMELOR (Costumes dance) is the traditional manifestation of the region that is organized in Pietrari, in Florii day (national religious celebration, one week before Easter), and it has riched this year to the 38th edition. This manifestation presents, from one edition to another, the great variety of the national costumes, comparing their beauty and richness of colours of the oldest costumes, taken out from our great-grandmothers trunks, with those of new customes, sewed by the hands of the women who didn`t forgot the art of painting with the niddle, wonderful flowers on the flax.

This is our village, with laborious and clever people, with magic, beautiful places that deserves a visit, with mineral waters well known in the treatment of reumatic illness, with traditions that go on from ages, the place where we are home and where we find every time our soul in the songs (doina), our nostalgies (the unicity of the word dor that cannot be translated in any other language) in our dances...
